How Cheap Lee Came to Be…

“Do you want to air condition the world? Shut the door!” That is what I constantly heard growing up. That and other frugal restrictions my folks lectured upon me solidified a penny-wise nature. You see, both my parents were entrepreneurs so every penny they made went back into their businesses.

As I developed and ran my own businesses, I experienced their logic first hand. Not only did a thrifty attitude make economical sense, but I also soon realized that savings wasn’t only a financial decision for my future, but an environmental one. The less stuff I had or needed to accomplish the same goals, the more “green” I have become.

This creed of cutting back in my life was actually very healthy for me. It showed how little I need to live a happy and full life. The things in life I thought I needed were only a distraction to what I wanted to accomplish. I came to see clearly that by having trivial stuff, I prevented myself from achieving some of my life goals.

I now see money as a tool that I can use to make positive change toward in my life and the lives of others. Saving and investing go along way to help make this happen!

My Background

I started my trading career in the early 90s as a licensed day trader with a proprietary firm. I eventually worked my way up to become a large trader with several million dollars at my disposal, and eventually became a trainer to other traders, teaching them the latest techniques to improve upon their success.

After many years, I was afforded an opportunity to work outside the markets to challenge my financials talents in several start-up ventures during the Internet heyday, where I put together a comprehensive private placement packages, successfully raised millions in venture funding, and helped drive business forward as an executive at several startups. Even though my businesses did well, I was longing to return to my roots.

When I returned to trading, I hadn’t realized the nature of the markets had changed and money got tight. Day trading died. After all my successes, I quickly discovered a major flaw. I wasn’t saving and growing my wealth like I should.

I knew I had to do something. I started to change my approach to investing. I explored strategies that had been successfully used over time, and also I looked at new strategies. Upon filling this need for me, I figured that my friends and family, who don’t have any market experience whatsoever, could use the same techniques. After all, the strategies that I put together weren’t hard to understand. The only challenge for my friends and family were their fear towards the markets, especially where to begin and what to do.

So I compiled my market-based knowledge and a trading plan into a course that anyone can pick up and use, whether they had some market experience or none at all.

Once I wrote Cheap Lee’s Guide to Investing, I figured a blog would be a great place to design a community of like minded people, who want not only want to invest right, but also learn better ways to save, negotiate the best deals and win at life!

 All the best… Lee
